Creating a discount code
1
Go to Discounts
Open Discounts in your dashboard and click New discount.
2
Set the code
Enter a unique code that buyers will type at checkout (e.g.,
WELCOME20, LAUNCH50). Codes are unique within your account and case-insensitive at checkout.3
Choose the discount type
Select whether the discount is a percentage off or a fixed amount off the price.
4
Configure duration and limits
Set how long the discount lasts, how many times it can be redeemed, who can use it, and when it starts and expires. See the sections below for details on each option.
5
Optionally target specific price variants
If you want the discount to apply only to certain products or tiers, select the specific price variants it targets.
Discount types
A discount can be either percentage-based or fixed-amount, not both. Fixed-amount discounts are tied to a specific currency.
Duration
Duration controls how the discount applies over time, which matters most for subscription products.Max redemptions
Set a max redemptions limit to cap how many orders can use a code, across all buyers. Once the limit is reached, buyers who enter the code are told it has reached its usage limit. Leave this blank for unlimited redemptions. You can’t change the limit after you create the code. A code counts as redeemed when an order paid with it is placed. Test purchases you make on your own store don’t count. The Usage column on the Discounts page shows how much of the limit has been used.Who can use a code
Under Restrictions you can limit a code further. You can change these at any time.
Crevio recognizes a customer by the account they’re signed in with, or else by the email they enter at checkout. If a buyer isn’t signed in, Crevio checks the code again with their email when they click to pay, before any payment is taken, and shows the message there. They can remove the code and pay full price.
These restrictions follow the email address, so someone who checks out with a second email counts as a new customer. In the rare case a buyer completes payment despite the checks, they still get their order, and the use counts toward the code’s limit.
Start and expiration dates
Set a starts at date to schedule a code ahead of time, for example a Black Friday code you set up today. The code exists right away, but buyers who enter it before that time are told it isn’t active yet. A checkout link with the discount pre-applied charges full price until then. Leave it empty to make the code usable immediately. You can change the start date at any time. Set a redeem by date to make a code expire automatically at a specific time. After the expiration date passes, the code can no longer be applied at checkout. The expiration date must be in the future when you create or update the discount, and it must come after the start date.Targeting specific price variants
By default, a discount applies to any product at checkout. To narrow it down, you can target specific price variants. When a discount is targeted, it only works if every item in the buyer’s checkout is one of the targeted variants. If the buyer adds anything else, the code is refused with “That code only applies to specific products, which aren’t in your cart.” This is useful when you want to run a promotion on a specific tier (e.g., 20% off the annual plan) without discounting your other offerings.Discount links
A discount link opens checkout with a code already applied, so buyers don’t have to type it. To get one:- Open Discounts and click the menu on an active discount
- Click Share link
- Pick the product, then copy the link
?discount=YOURCODE to any product buy link (/buy/...) or checkout link yourself and it works the same way.
If the code can’t be used, for example because it expired or the buyer already used it, checkout still opens without it and a message tells the buyer why. They never land on an error page.
A discount link works even when Allow coupon codes is turned off under Settings -> Advanced -> Checkout, because you chose to share it. All the code’s other limits still apply.
Adding
?discount= to a page of your website doesn’t apply anything. It only works on buy links and checkout links, which open Crevio’s checkout.Using discounts with checkout links
You can pre-apply a discount to a checkout link. When a buyer opens the link, the discount is already applied — they do not need to enter a code manually. This is especially effective for:- Email campaigns — Include a checkout link with the discount baked in
- Social media promotions — Share a single URL that gives followers an instant deal
- Partner referrals — Create unique discount + checkout link combos for each partner
A checkout link can only have one discount applied. The discount must be in an Active status when the link is created or updated.
Applying a discount to an existing subscription
Discount codes are normally entered at checkout, but you can also give a discount to a customer who is already subscribed — for example to reward a loyal customer, honor a deal you agreed on later, or lower the price on your own test subscriptions.- Open Orders and select any order that belongs to the subscription
- In the Subscription card, click Apply discount
- Choose one of your active discounts and confirm
A subscription can have one discount at a time. Payment plans cannot be discounted because their total is fixed, and a discount limited to specific price variants can only be applied to subscriptions for those variants.
