Connecting PayPal
1
Go to Settings
In your dashboard, go to Settings > Payments.
2
Click Connect PayPal
Click PayPal to open it, then click Connect PayPal. You are sent to PayPal.
3
Sign in or create a business account
Sign in to your PayPal business account, or create one. When PayPal asks, allow Crevio to take payments on your behalf.
4
Return to Crevio
PayPal sends you back to Settings > Payments. PayPal shows as connected once three things are true: your PayPal email is confirmed, you granted the permissions, and your account can receive payments. Each one has a tick next to it.
Emails about your PayPal connection
Crevio emails the owner of your business when your PayPal connection changes:
You get each email once per change, not every time Crevio checks your account. Clicking Disconnect in Crevio doesn’t send an email.
What buyers see
Buyers enter their email in your checkout first, so their order, receipt and access go to the address they chose, not necessarily the one on their PayPal account. After they approve the payment in PayPal, they land on your normal order confirmation page.
If you have Collect shipping address turned on under Settings > Advanced > Checkout, buyers paying with PayPal choose or enter their shipping address inside PayPal, before they approve the payment. The address appears on the order, the same as for card payments. PayPal does not limit it to your allowed countries, so check the country before you post the item.
Fees
PayPal charges its own fees on each sale. They come out of your PayPal account, the same way Stripe’s fees come out of your Stripe balance. If your plan includes a Crevio platform fee, it is taken from PayPal sales as well as card sales.Refunds and disputes
- Refund from Crevio: open the order and refund it as you would a card payment. The money goes back to the buyer through PayPal. A full refund removes their access.
- Refund in PayPal: a refund you make in your PayPal account also shows up on the order in Crevio.
- Disputes: when a buyer opens a dispute in PayPal, the order shows as Disputed. You answer it in PayPal. If the buyer wins, their access is removed.
Limits
- One-time purchases only. Subscriptions and payment plans need Stripe. If you only have PayPal connected, buyers can’t check out a subscription or payment plan.
- No automatic sales tax on PayPal payments. Tax is calculated only on card payments through Stripe. Buyers paying with PayPal pay the listed price.
- PayPal’s currencies only. The button appears only when your product is priced in a currency PayPal supports: USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CAD, CHF, CZK, DKK, HKD, HUF, ILS, JPY, MXN, MYR, NOK, NZD, PHP, PLN, BRL, SEK, SGD, THB and TWD. A product priced in another currency shows no PayPal button.
- PayPal charges your listed price. The card form can show the price converted into the buyer’s currency. PayPal always charges the price and currency you set, and shows that amount to the buyer before they approve.
- Not available in every country. PayPal doesn’t let platforms like Crevio take payments for PayPal business accounts registered in Brazil, India, Israel, Japan, Micronesia or Turkey. This is PayPal’s rule, so there’s no setting to change it. If your PayPal account is registered in one of these countries, connect Stripe instead, where Stripe is available in your country.
